Unpublished Landon Letter
Editor:
I feel I must take exception to the Collegian editorial on 4/30 about students needing to appreciate the Landon Lecture more. Some of the notable names of late include Gates, Clinton, Rumsfeld, Brownback, Bush, Hamilton, Roberts, and Mueller. While these are all powerful people, the list is ridden with WASP-y men who all have one shared belief: dropping bombs on innocent civilians is a normal and acceptable form of foreign policy.
As a K-State student, I find it despicable that such an enormous amount of KSU money goes toward subsidizing this kind of thought and behavior.
Not only do I dislike my money going toward people who have consistently lied to the American public in order to launder tax money into the military-industrial complex, I must object to the idol worship encouraged by the editorial board.
I strongly urge the Landon Lecture organizers to consider someone like Shirin Ebadi next time. Ms. Ebadi is not only woman, but she is an internationally renowned democracy and peace worker in Iran.
As an institution of higher education we should be using our resources and efforts to create a more just and sane world, not perpetuate our system that is ridden with war profiteers and criminals.
