"Conspiracy Theory"
All media on both sides of the isle seem to think the word "conspiracy" is a derogatory word. Of course in the real world, conspiracies happen all the time. The definition of a conspiracy is (roughly) 2+ people 'breathing' together to perform a criminal activity. All gangs, by definition, commit conspiracy. Many political factions are little better than gangs and commit conspiracies as well.
These should be pretty easy concepts for everyone to agree on. Yet even MSNBC and Alternet spit the phrase "conspiracy theory" as an insult. Shouldn't it be obvious that politicians commit commit conspiracies all the time? Why can't each be judged by the facts?
Stupid conspiracy theories that should be ridiculed:
+Birther: President Obama has provided a mountain of evidence proving he was born in Hawaii. The Birther wackos do not have a shred of evidence. This should obviously be made fun of.
+Liberal Media: No such thing. Any scientific study will show you that most guests on the TV are conservative male establishment figures. If MSNBC is as liberal as it gets, we should talk about the Moderate Media Conspiracy.
+Conservative Media: No such thing. All mainstream media is establishment media. They worship profit motive and partisanship, not conservative values.
+President Obama is a racist: I'm more racist against crackers (I mean white people) than the Prez. I mean he was raised by all white people and most of his cabinet has Vanilla Face. This isn't really even a conspiracy theory since he is one person, but I had to get that in.
+Aliens: Maybe aliens have visited, maybe they haven't. But there's no credible evidence.
+We never landed on the moon: Yes we did, shut your face.
Fairly likely or proven conspiracies:
+JFK: He was murdered by the mafia. The government knows it and the Kennedy family knows it. No lone gunmen could kill JFK from that position with that gun. You don't have to be crazy to believe a story far more plausible than the official story.
+MLK: I don't know who killed him, but even the Kings don't think it was a lone white gunmen. FBI? Mercenary?
+Watergate
+Iran/Contra
+Torture: The Bush Administration conspired to encourage and pave the way toward a legal avenue to torture whoever we damn well please.
+Spy program: The Bush Administration conspired to spy on American citizens illegally.
+Iraq invasion: The Bush Administration conspired to fix the facts with their decision to invade Iraq.
+Spanish American War: The Elite conspired to start a war with Spain based on propaganda in order to benefit the private sector of America.
+President Johnson impeachment: Johnson's political enemies conspired to pass an unconstitutional law to retroactively impeach a president they didn't like.
+Health Care: The insurance industry conspired with President Nixon to make profit motive the #1 Boss when it comes to health care in America.
+Vietnam: The White House conspired to fix the facts of the Gulf of Tonkin incident to escalate the conflict.
+Chile: The White House conspired with militant reactionaries to overthrow the liberal gov't of Chile in the '70s.
Conspiracies worth looking into:
+CIA and Cocaine: There is strong evidence the CIA sold drugs to American inner cities to fund their more unsavory programs in the '80s. Proof? No, but might have happened.
+9/11???????: The official story makes no sense. Not saying I know what happened. There is no explanation other than controlled demolition to explain Building 7's collapse. The explanation for why Buildings 1 & 2 collapsed at a free fall is shaky. It is troublesome that there was virtually no evidence of planes in Pennsylvania or at the Pentagon (planes don't evaporate when they crash). The FBI's story of 'finding' passports of the hijackers at ground zero is almost laughable. Again, no idea what actually happened, but the official line is impossible given physical facts, firsthand accounts, and video. Why must people who raise these questions (both progressive and reactionary) be ridiculed?
Conspiracies are a part of life. To turn 'conspiracy theory' into a pejorative term is to deny reality. Think for yourself and look at the facts. Unfortunately many conspiracies will never be proven, but you can at least decide what you think is most likely.
